Sunlighten Infrared Saunas
The popularity of Sunlighten Infrared Saunas is increasing across the globe. Celebrities including Jennifer Aniston and Lady Gaga are embracing the many benefits it offers and often credits infrared sauna treatments for their glowing skin. Sports teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers and major universities including the University of Tennessee also make use of these treatments to help athletes heal from pain and injury.
Sauna Sessions

Detoxification
Sweating is the body’s mechanism for releasing toxins and helping us to remain healthy. This detoxification process is safe, natural and something we all do. In all saunas, a person sweats out mostly water, but the percentage of toxins expelled varies widely. In a traditional sauna, only about 3% of toxins are released during a session (compared to 97% water). In a Sunlighten sauna, that percentage increases to 20% (and the percentage of water is 80%), which results in more efficient flushing of the body and a healthier functioning immune system.
Toxins including mercury, lead, car emissions, tobacco, mold, and other pollutants are known to be present in our environment, and each has been proven to have damaging effects. Removing these toxins is a preventative measure that keeps them from accumulating within the body.
Pain Relief
Many individuals visit a sauna to discover the benefits of heat for relieving pain and tension. Sunlighten infrared sauna heat actually penetrates deep into sore joints, muscles, and tissue to increase blood flow and the amount of oxygen getting to these areas. Pain management professionals have long implemented these ideas into the treatment plans for individuals suffering from a variety of conditions. Thus, they have realized the significant benefits that infrared heat offers when it comes to healing the body naturally. The Sunlighten sauna brings these therapeutic options to the general public, allowing many individuals to proactively address sports injuries, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis and other chronic conditions that cause pain.
Weight Loss
A single Sunlighten infrared sauna session causes the core body temperature to rise. The body then immediately works to cool itself, raising an individual’s heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate. The result is a burn of up to 600 calories. People who are actively trying to lose or sustain their weight often use Sunlighten sauna sessions, typically three 30-minute sessions per week, as a supplement to healthy eating and exercise regimes. These amazing results are easily tested by the scale and when one wears a heart rate monitor before, during and after a session.
Relaxation
Everyone enjoys a little relaxation, but few people realize the health benefits that it provides. The American Institute of Stress estimates that 75 to 90% of all primary care visits are stress-related. The American Psychological Foundation further states that chronic stress can trigger asthma attacks, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal distress, reproductive health concerns and a host of other physical and mental health diagnoses. A Sunlighten sauna session invigorates the body and mind through deep tissue penetration that balances cortisol levels and helps individuals to relax. After just 30-minutes, individuals report improved sleep, an improved state of mind and reduced feelings of stress throughout the body.
Lower Blood Pressure
Many individuals are turning to natural measures to control health concerns including high blood pressure. Some are finding success with regular Sunlighten sauna sessions. The Solocarbon heaters used in the Sunlighten saunas were included in a clinical study conducted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2005. Results indicated a reduction in blood pressure from a 30-minute sauna session, three times per week. Repeated infrared treatments improve the function of impaired blood vessels in patients with a diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. This suggests a possible preventative role for holistic care and specifically Sunlighten sauna use when individuals are at risk for arteriosclerosis.
Improved Circulation
Heating the muscles with infrared light and the resulting elevation in body temperature increases blood flow. These effects are similar to what individuals experience while exercising. The positive outcomes of this increase in peripheral circulation and evacuation of the edema include a reduction in healing time of injuries or illnesses. Others also report experiencing less inflammation throughout the body and decreased pain following an injury or as the result of chronic and acute health conditions.
Skin Purification
Infrared sauna sessions improve the skin’s appearance and have a positive impact on the dermis and epidermis layers of the skin which is effective in treating acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns and wounds, skin lesions or cuts. With regular sessions, wrinkles are reduced, the skin becomes firmer, and there is an improvement in elasticity and skin tone. Collagen is also stimulated when an individual commits to regular sessions, lessening the appearance of scars and helping burns or wounds to heal faster and more efficiently.
What is Infrared?
Infrared light is experienced as heat. It is naturally occurring as the invisible part of the sun’s spectrum. Infrared contains no UV and is capable of penetrating human tissue. There are many health benefits associated with the use of infrared light.
Traditional saunas also offer health benefits, but one of the main differences between them and infrared saunas has to do with the heat delivered to the individual sitting inside the unit. Traditional dry saunas often reach temperatures of 185 to 190 degrees F. These temperatures are extreme, and they can sometimes overwhelm individuals causing dizziness, dehydration or discomfort even after a very short period of time. Infrared saunas deliver milder temperatures to users with an environment between about 120 and 150 degrees F. They also provide heat much deeper into the tissue, causing a more vigorous sweat, and thus, release of the toxins, at lower temperatures according to Dr. Richard Beever in the July 2009 issue of “Canadian Family Physician.”
